In Singapore and Japan, teachers encourage pupils to record their mathematics in a different way from how we in the UK have traditionally recorded mathematics. Explore examples of learning journals, understand how this approach complements the teaching for mastery approach and hav a go!

In my role as Maths Leader at St Mary's & St Peter's Cathoilc Primary School I have been implementing journalling for the last four years. Come and learn from our success!!!!

 

Audience -  Mathematics subject leaders, Key stage 1 and 2 Teachers, HLTAs, NQTs

Outline - In Singapore and Japan, teachers lead their pupils to record their mathematics in a different way from how we in the UK have traditionally recorded learning mathematics. This course will look at examples of pupils’ learning journals from a range of year groups, understand how this approach complements the teaching for mastery approach and provide an opportunity to see the course leader demonstrate how to use journaling with a group of children from Parkland Primary School.
