Critical Incident and Bereavement Support

Critical Incident and Bereavement Support

The Educational Psychology Team will respond to requests for support from schools as they become aware of a critical incident. Support may be provided either by telephone or on site and include advice on:

  • Communicating with children, staff and parents;
  • How best to support children and staff throughout the school day;
  • Normal responses to grief and how to manage these;
  • Managing subsequent days
  • Signs to look out for that indicate a need for professional support.

The cost for support from the EPT following a critical incident is funded centrally.

Be Prepared

The EPT can offer support to schools to develop critical incident plans in advance of any event happening. The EPT can offer training and support to governors and/or senior managers regarding the form and content of such plans. This is a paid for service.
