ASSESSMENT AND MODERATION TRAINING AND SUPPORT 2023-2024

Alongside the suite of training we are offering as outlined below we also have the following opportunities for schools:

Non Statutory Moderation

OUTLINE

With the removal of statutory moderation at both EYFS and KS1 we are offering non statutory moderation to support schools with effective assessment and to quality assure judgments made. This will take place in school during the summer term. Dates will be agreed between the moderator and the school.

DESCRIPTION

Schools will receive a visit from experienced moderators who will carry out moderation in line with the structure of a statutory moderation visit. The process will be collaborative with professional discussion playing a key role.

Year 1 and Year 2 will cover reading, writing and maths

Years 3,4,5,6 will cover writing

  • Professional development for teachers
  • Informing whole school assessment practice and areas for development

Autumn focus:

OUTLINE

The focus of the autumn sessions is to develop effective teaching and assessment to support quality first teaching of writing, evidencing progress across ability ranges and across year groups.

DESCRIPTION

During the session we will cover the following specific to the year group:

  • Teaching - what needs to be covered
  • A quality learning journey
  • Grammar progression
  • Strategies and ideas to support teaching

Spring focus

OUTLINE

The focus of the Spring term sessions is to support year groups in making accurate judgements.

DESCRIPTION

During the sessions we will cover the following aspects specific to the year group:

  • Clarifying judgements PKS – GDS
  • Opportunity to moderate work with other teachers and supported by the moderation team
  • Y6 sessions will include an overview of the statutory moderation process

Delegates should bring pupil work with them for the cross moderation session.

Spring Term

PKS Standards at KS2

OUTLINE

This session aims to clarify what pre key stage standards in writing are and when they should be used.

DESCRIPTION

The following will be covered during the training:

  • Unpicking the pre key stage standards
  • The difference between a pupil who is WTS and a pupil at PKS
  • Strategies to support moving pupils on from pre key stage standards

OUTCOMES

  • Clarity around pre key stage standards and when they should be used
  • Knowing how pre key stage standards can be used to inform next steps
