Dear Head teacher,

‘Walkshire’

Schools across West Yorkshire are being invited to take part in an exciting new web based initiative developed by the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (Metro) and the five district councils (Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield).

The aim of Walkshire is to promote more congestion busting, healthy and environmentally friendly ways of travelling to school.  Children are encouraged to walk, cycle or scoot to school via a fun and interactive online challenge. The site is hosted by Metro at www.generationm.co.uk.  In addition, in the Bradford district there will be prize draws for a gold, silver and bronze level prize bundle which will include items to encourage participation at both the school level as well as amongst individual pupils.

Please find attached an ‘Information for Schools’ sheet which gives a thorough explanation of how the scheme operates.

If you have any other queries about Walkshire please do not hesitate to contact me.  I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely

Mr Tom Jones
