Bradford Council are working with Queens' College, part of the University of Cambridge to support young people to consider Oxbridge as an option for them. This includes having a member of college staff, Sian Bex, working in Bradford full time to support schools and students.

Sian is able to work with schools individually to meet their needs and those of their students - but there are also a range of events organised for students and schools to participate in. The following events / opportunities are coming up in the near future and schools / individuals can sign up to them.

1

The first is a work experience opportunity at Cambridge University, open to A-Level / IB Biology students who attend a state school.  There are funds to cover the cost of accommodation, food and some travel whilst they are there. It is a great opportunity to get some real life experience and also gain something to put on University / job applications in the future. The deadline to apply is 1 March. All of the details are on our website: https://www.gurdon.cam.ac.uk/public-engagement/workexperience

2

The second is the annual Queens’ College Cambridge student roadshow from March 16th – 20th.  Here we offer secondary schools (the session is aimed at students in year 11 and 12) the opportunity to host a small group of Cambridge students who come in to school to talk about their experiences of studying and living in Cambridge. This is a really good opportunity for school students to speak to Cambridge students in person, and bust some of the myths surrounding studying at Cambridge.

Schools can sign up and express a preference for a time slot here, https://cambridge.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6VFcjcmJ8HIhvBb

Sessions take about 1 hour, and the closing date is this Wednesday 29th, as organising the logistics is quite a large job .

Finally we have the BME Access Day at Queens’ and St Catherine’s

Queens' College and St Catharine's College are collaborating to host an event for Year 12 students from Black and Minority Ethnic groups in Cambridge on Saturday 14th March. The event will offer school students the opportunity to find out more about life at a selective university, meet current Cambridge students, and experience academic taster sessions. The event is completely free of charge, and some travel bursaries will be available.

Students can apply for a place using our online application form, or see here for more information. The deadline for applications is Friday 14th February.

If you have any questions, or wish to speak to Sian about working with your school please contact her on slo-bradford@queens.cam.ac.uk
