How do we ensure that our mathematics curriculum is ambitious and designed to give all learner the knowledge and skills they need, to be prepared for the next stage of their mathematical journey, and for life?

Making Mathematics Memorable Hosted by St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School (Keighley) Led by Sharon Day 2019 – 2020 How do we ensure that our mathematics curriculum is ambitious and designed to give all learners, particularly the most disadvantaged and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) or high needs, the knowledge and skills they need, to be prepared for the next stage of their mathematical journey, and for life? We will look at:  Promoting the conservation of number in children who are experiencing difficulties with this  Using subitising as a means to develop visualisation (through a newly designed programme that works in a similar way to phonics)  Exploring a range of manipulatives and pictorial approaches to meet identified children’s individual needs  How to enliven mathematical learning opportunities to bring joy and engagement in the subject This course will be useful for Teaching Assistants and Teachers who work with children with SEND and disadvantage. It will also benefit SEND and Mathematics leaders.
