By popular request, another chance to take part in this well received course:
In Response to Bold Beginnings
EYFS Mathematics
Hosted by St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, Keighley
Led by Sharon Day
2019 – 2020
Mathematics is not as well planned for as literacy, according to the findings of the Ofsted report: ‘Bold Beginnings’. This course will support you in making good decisions for the maths curriculum for Reception in
your school. We will look at:
- which parts of mathematics can be learned through experiences, as part of long-term acquired learning (utilising Continuous Provision and daily routines) and which have to be actively taught
- how to develop early fluency through exploring subitising and conservation of number
- the use of game playing to promote reasoning and problem solving
- how to use different styles of questioning to promote greater depth thinking in children who grasp concepts rapidly
- how to ensure a good understanding of number in your children, in readiness for year 1
This course will benefit any teacher of Reception or manager of the Early Years. Mathematics Subject Leaders who want to develop their own understanding of mathematics in the Early Years will also find this course helpful.
