This is a modular course for teachers who are new to Year 2 or for those who would like to be introduced to a range of engaging teaching and revision techniques to help them to prepare for the end of KS1 assessments in 2019.
Participants can sign up for all, or part, of the course. The modules are:
Day 1 - 11 October 2018:
Planning effective teaching and revision sequences for fiction in Year 2 and statutory assessment overview.
During this day, we will work through a teaching sequence that is customised to meet the specific needs of this year group. Using quality texts, we will identify precisely what to teach and practice especially in reading, spelling, punctuation, grammar and
writing, so that children are both engaged and adequately prepared, for the end of KS1 tests and assessments.
There will be a free copy of a quality fiction text – Orion and the Dark for all attendees to take away with them.
Day 2 - 17 January 2019:
Planning effective teaching sequences for poetry, non-fiction and reading and writing across the curriculum
Working at Greater Depth
Poetry and non-fiction texts have accounted for a large percentage of the new style tests over the past three years. This module will examine similar teaching sequences for poetry and non-fiction (including reading and writing across the curriculum) and
will demonstrate how engaging techniques can support comprehension, punctuation and grammar and writing. Again, test question techniques will be integrated.
A key part of both days will be to show how we can prepare children for their (optional) SPaG, and reading tests in Year 2 by introducing test question formats to children in a variety of contexts.
There will be a range of strategies and ideas to support the needs of children working at greater depth.
Course Fees:
Full, two day course – £300 + VAT
Day 1 only – £170 + VAT
Day 2 only – £170 + VAT
The course will be delivered by Philip Webb.
