Paper £10 notes will soon be withdrawn

The old paper £10 note, featuring Charles Darwin, will be withdrawn from circulation on 1 March 2018. If your service accepts cash as a method of payment, you need to prepare for the change.

  • Display a poster to say that you will not accept paper £10 notes after 1 March
  • Make sure all your staff know about the change
  • In the run up to 1 March, bank all paper £10 notes at the earliest opportunity
  • Do not give paper £10 notes to your customers as change unless unavoidable
  • Check your safes & cashboxes and spend or swap any paper £10 notes for the new polymer ones (note – please don’t send paper £10 notes to the cash and security office asking for a polymer replacement).

After 1 March, you must not accept paper £10 from customers.
