Breaking News - Teaching Year 6 Media Strand Learn with Learners session

This Learn with Learners half day session is being delivered by the Curriculum Innovation Service at The Innovation Centre on Thursday 9 February and will model the key skills, knowledge and understanding of the Y6 Media Strand of the Computing Curriculum to a member of staff and up to six pupils.

The Curriculum Innovation team is aware that it can be difficult to keep up to date with the latest technologies and how to use them effectively across the curriculum. A Learning with Learners session allows teachers to attend model teaching sequences with up to six children. At the end of the morning the teacher leaves with lesson plans and resources based around the Curriculum Innovation's Computing scheme of work.  Over a morning the children and teacher will cover the main points in the lessons so they can teach them for themselves back in school. This is the ideal way to help less confident members of staff to tackle a strand in the Computing Curriculum.

In this 'Breaking News' session there are two activities. One uses laptops with an online programme called Soundation, the other uses iPads with Garageband installed or create news reports using laptops or iPads. The lessons teach you how to:

  • Analyse and compare different professional broadcasts.
  • Draft features
  • Create different genres of audio broadcast

A half day session is £100 (£80 subscribers) per school for up to two members of staff and six pupils. To book your place please click here.
