Have you got time to spare? Do you want to make a difference?

If so then maybe you could consider being a member of the School Appeals Panel. The Council is seeking to recruit volunteers to sit on this important board.

Parents have a right to state their preference for the school they would like their child(ren) to attend.

In some cases a place at the chosen school cannot be offered. When this happens, parents have the right to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel, known as the School Appeals Panel.

We are seeking people to take part in this process for which comprehensive training is provided.

Appeals take place throughout the school year but do peak during the summer months for panels to hear the appeals for children starting in either Reception or in Year 7 in the September.

Our current panel members see many benefits from being on the panel. Comments include:

  • “A wonderful opportunity to be able to give back to the community.”
  • “Helping to make a difference to the education of children in Bradford.”
  • “I enjoy a challenge and keeping up-to-date with the changes in the education system.”

Panel members do receive travel and subsistence expenses.

Coun Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Education, Employment and Skills, said: “This is an important process of our education system. We need more impartial people who are available to sit as independent panel members and join our existing team.

“If this is something you have the capacity to do we would like to hear from you.”

We value our panel members hugely and recognise their service as essential to the management of school appeals in Bradford. If you have spare time to offer us and would like to be involved with the panel or if you would like any further information please contact Tracey Sugden or Claire Tomenson on 01274 434287 or 432457.
