Primary Mathematics Moderation Project

To be completed by: Thu 14 Jul 2016

Time: -Thu 14 Jul 2016 | Venue:

This project will focus on developing teachers confindence in making assessment judgements against age-related expectations for their own year group.

Full details are available on our flyer - Mathematics Moderation Project Flyer

‘Assessment without levels’ requires teachers to be able to make assessment judgements against age-related expectations for their own year groups. This can feel challenging and daunting as we continue to get to grip with the content of the new curriculum and the new testing regimes.

The aim of this project, which will be led by Sharon Day and supported by Leaders of Learning, is to:

·         develop teachers’ confidence in using assessment techniques that do not require testing;

·         equip teachers with the knowledge of what it means to be ‘age-related’ for their own year group;

·         provide teachers with ideas on how to find and address gaps in children’s learning.

There will be opportunities for professional dialogue with colleagues from a variety of schools to help with the process of finding a shared understanding of the standards that children need to achieve as they progress through primary school.

Teachers attending will be required to contribute to a portfolio of evidence over the course of the project which will then be presented to all schools who have taken part.

Teachers will also be given ideas and advice from the course leader to help them with teaching and learning mathematics in relevant, interesting and fun ways.

The course will contain three dates for each year group across the year. The first two sessions will be afternoons only and the final session will be longer to allow for end of year moderation and the collation of evidence. The dates are as follows:
