WORLD DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS WEEK
So far this year we have delivered seven assemblies to a total of 2,000+ pupils.
Assemblies are 30 minutes long and cover what Down syndrome is, what having a learning disability means, the potential of children with Down syndrome and why it is important that they are in school making friends and learning as part of a class.
The assemblies are always very well received by teachers and pupils alike. I love the questions at the end; the awkward questions children are not afraid to ask – “can you catch it?”, “can people with Down syndrome have babies, and will their babies have
Down syndrome?”, etc.
We will continue to deliver assemblies throughout the rest of the year. There is no charge but we do ask that schools consider a fundraising event to support our charity.
