The unit’s priority is to make sure case conferences and allegations management referrals are processed in a timely fashion, and that Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements meetings are supported.
Bradford Safeguarding Children Board has considered a review of the unit’s processes and agreed to the following changes, which will be
effective from 1 December 2014.
Enquiries by Partner Agencies
The Child Protection Unit is realigning its resources and moving away from the telephone consultation service offered by duty child protection co-ordinators. This is because this service duplicates similar services already available in other ways.
Enquiries about whether to refer to Children’s Social Care should now be directed to the Integrated Assessment Team (01274 437500) which has a multi-agency filtering service. This will mean partner agencies will be able to
consult their own operational managers, and their respective Safeguarding Leads.
Where a professional disagreement arises in relation to the handling of a safeguarding issue and this needs to be pursued further, then the established procedure should be followed:
Service Offered by Safeguarding and Reviewing Unit Admin Staff
Enquiries about individuals identified as posing a risk to children will be directed to the Safeguarding and Reviewing Unit Admin staff (01274 434343). They will identify the caller and share factual information only. A Duty Child Protection
Co-ordinator will be available as back up if required. The Safeguarding and Reviewing Unit will retain responsibility for managing this information on Liquid Logic.
Transfer-in notifications will continue to be completed in the standard way, but with Safeguarding and Reviewing Unit Admin staff completing the notification document. They will continue to enter information on Liquid Logic and notify partner
agencies. Children visiting the Bradford District on a temporary basis who are on Child Protection Plans in another local authority will be managed and followed up in the same way through the Safeguarding and Reviewing Unit Admin team.
Emergency Duty Team referrals are faxed to the Safeguarding and Reviewing Unit on a daily basis. Safeguarding and Reviewing Unit Admin staff will check each referral for Child Protection or Independent Reviewing Officer involvement and circulate
as appropriate. The majority of EDT referrals will be handled directly by Children’s Social Care.
Initial Child Protection Conference requests - a chairperson will now be allocated at the point the initial child protection case conference request is received and checks will be undertaken by the allocated chairperson.
