Delivered by Andrew Redding (Schools Finance Team). Explores school finance, the governors role & the current financial landscape. Includes KEY financial updates for 2025-26.

This session delivered by the School Funding Team will give governors the opportunity (with support) to delve into example schools financial information, to gain an understanding that can be used for maintained schools.Suitable to support Governors understanding, questioning and forward thinking regarding school finance.

 

The strategic management of the school is dependent upon the effective use of the funds available for the benefit of its pupils is one of the most important tasks of any governing board. Bradford Council School Funding Team have used their expertise to develop this course to:-

  • Explain the role of governors who serve on a finance committee (or its equivalent).
  • Consider the governor’s role setting the annual budget, agreeing financial priorities,
  • medium term financial planning, monitoring expenditure against the budget,
  • variations to spending plans including virements, financial systems and procedures, delegated authority to the head teacher, and financial benchmarking
