In partnership with the International Rescue Committee's
Healing Classrooms, The Story Project has created two short programmes of work for National Refugee Week 17-23rd June.
Using our book-led approach these lessons can be used to support and welcome new students to school and to help classmates develop a sense of empathy, understanding and respect. Children will deepen their understanding of what life is like for refugee and
asylum-seeking families.
In true The Story Project style, the learning is based on a popular, high-quality book:
Key Stage One - Everybody's Welcome by Patricia Hegarty
Key Stage Two - Zlata's Diary by Zlata Filipovic (adaptable for KS3)
What to expect from a Story Project resource
Our resources put reading at the heart of learning. Every single lesson uses books to embed regulation strategies, emotional literacy, oracy, wellbeing skills and comprehension skills.
Teachers find Story Project lessons engaging and easy-to-implement. Using our book-led approach creates a safe, inclusive way to teach even the trickier topics. Perfect as a PSHE or literacy lesson!
