Join a growing community of Bradford schools doing PSHE differently.
The Story Project is a social enterprise dedicated to using the magic of stories to bring
PSHE, oracy, literacy and wellbeing to life in our fully-mapped and progressive curriculum designed by teachers.
Children’s mental health challenges are on the rise, and many young people struggle to navigate their emotions, regulate their feelings and discuss how they feel. With our team's
years of experience in Bradford and across the U.K, we understand these challenges. Using our
research-backed approach and story-centered lessons means schools can teach PSHE in a way that fosters empathy,
supports wellbeing, champions discussion, and develops key literacy skills.
Thanks to the support of generous donors, education charity SHINE has awarded £600,000 to introduce The Story
Project into schools across the city over the next two years. Over 30 primary schools are currently taking part and the team are excited to invite a

Hollingwood Primary School's Story
Hollingwood, a two-form entry primary serving a diverse community in Bradford, have been part of The Story Project since September 2024. The school needed a programme with big impact that supported a number of school priorities:
“Our priority was to find a programme that supported children’s mental wellbeing, covering
all statutory PSHE requirements, while also promoting a
love of reading. We wanted something that would spark engagement across the whole school but that wouldn’t create extra work for staff.”
The Story Project offered the perfect solution.
Since introducing the programme, the school has seen a major shift in how children understand and manage their emotions, as well as their enthusiasm for reading.
“The impact on behaviour has been incredible. Children are not only more
aware of their emotions but are actively using strategies to manage them. Additionally,
the stories have sparked a new level of engagement with books—we see children discussing them long after the lessons have ended.”
With enthusiastic feedback from parents, engaged and confident pupils, and a structured yet flexible approach, The Story Project has become a vital part of Hollingwood’s commitment to developing emotionally literate, resilient learners while inspiring a
lifelong love of reading.
