A conference, training sessions on the power of sport to provide safe spaces for young people and virtual reality activities on gangs and knives, are just a few of the items on the agenda for Anti-Violence Month in March.

This is the third year of the month-long programme of events, exclusive to the Bradford District, aimed at professionals who work in community safety, or professionals who would like to increase their awareness of violence and exploitation or work with children, young people and safeguarding.

The packed agenda, organised by Safer Bradford, West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership, Bradford Youth Justice Service and Breaking the Cycle, begins on Monday 3 March with a combined launch event and professionals’ conference at Bradford College.

Other events include a webinar on the valuable role sport can play in providing a safe space for vulnerable young people; VR headset sessions to help young people consider the consequences made in the heat of the moment using gang and knife scenarios; domestic abuse and coercive control training; active bystander training and the screening of a theatre piece on criminal exploitation and country lines at the National Media Museum. There will also be primary schools’ competition to design a superhero for peace.
