Flu spreads more easily in winter when we spend more time together indoors and can cause serious illness.

Flu usually reaches its peak over the festive and new year period. Nobody wants to miss out on the festive celebrations with their friends and family this winter and the vaccines provide the best possible protection.

School-aged children are offered the annual flu vaccine through their school immunisation team – just complete this online consent form, you will need the schools unique code.

Your child will be offered the vaccine in the form of a quick and painless nasal spray vaccine, so it couldn’t be easier.

As well as helping to give children protection against flu, the vaccine also helps stop them passing it to others like elderly relatives such as grandparents, who will be more vulnerable.

After vaccination, some children may get mild side effects like a runny nose, but the vaccine cannot actually give them flu.

Porcine gelatine is used in the nasal flu spray offered to children. For those who may not accept the use of porcine gelatine in medical products, an alternative injectable flu vaccine is available and on offer. The school immunisation team always has a stock of the injectable flu vaccine on hand.
