Green Skills
‘Green skills’ is an umbrella term for the knowledge, behaviours, capabilities and technical skills required to tackle the environmental challenges we face and to unlock new opportunities for growth. Green skills can lead to reduced energy costs, waste
management savings, and improved efficiency.
Award in Carbon Literacy and the Impact of Climate Change Level 2
The Ascentis Level 2 Award in Carbon Literacy and the Impact of Climate Change is built around the principles of carbon literacy. These are to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding to be able to make informed choices leading to positive actions
which reduce their carbon footprint. An understanding of how climate change affects everyone will give learners the confidence to share their understanding and motivate others to do the same. These are the guiding principles behind the concept of carbon literacy.
Aims
The aims of the qualification are to enable learners to understand:
• the nature of greenhouse gases and how human activities are contributing to the increasing concentrations in the atmosphere.
• how increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases link to the current impacts of climate change.
• how the choices made by individuals, communities, organisations and governments can reduce the impacts of global climate change.
Environmental Sustainability Level: 1, 2
The Ascentis Level 1 Award in Environmental Sustainability qualifications are designed to give learners knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of sustainability and environmental impacts.
The aims of these qualifications are to enable learners:
- To understand basic concepts in sustainability
- To develop a basic understanding of the environmental impacts of the creation of goods and services
- To understand what makes up a sustainable community
- These qualifications cover a diverse range of skills with practical applications in the world of work and study. The courses can help you progress having benefited from acquiring some of these key skills and gaining confidence in a time efficient manner.
Preventing Plastic Pollution Level: 1
The Ascentis Level 1 Award in Preventing Plastic Pollution gives learners an understanding of different types of plastics and their uses, as well as how to reduce pollution.
The aims of the qualification are to enable learners to understand:
- Different types of plastics and their uses
- How to dispose of plastics
- How plastics affect marine environments
- How plastics pollution can be reduced
- These qualifications cover a diverse range of skills with practical applications in the world of work and study. The courses can help you progress having benefited from acquiring some of these key skills and gaining confidence in a time efficient manner.
CPD Principles of Sustainable Transport
Course Overview
The environmental impact of transport whether for leisure or business contributes greatly to air pollution and global warming. Companies are coming under increasing pressure to reduce their carbon footprints and find more sustainable transportation methods.
This course covers what is meant by sustainable transport, types of leisure travel and sustainable fuel. It provides an understanding of the impact of global transport, ways to promote sustainable methods of transport and the barriers that might prevent it.
The benefits of completing this course include:
• Engaging and interactive activities
• Study will develop learners’ knowledge, skills and confidence to enhance their future work and life
Green Skills for Managers Workshop
This will be delivered based upon the impact of learning undertaken and how this can affect their team and service area. The workshop will include strategic thinking, project management, decision-making, leadership, and effective communication. Please

These courses will provide you with an understanding of the knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a society which reduces the impact of human activity on the environment. Most of these courses have 10-20 guided
learning hours and can be delivered at Britannia House or studied at your own pace, distance learning with a final assessment at Britannia House.
