Information from Climate Action Countdown for interested schools to join in with.....

I wanted to let you know about an exciting schools climate action event that we are launching from 7 June -  5 July 2024, called the Climate Action Countdown.

The Climate Action Countdown will be a celebration of everything schools in your area are doing to tackle climate change and go zero carbon.

You could get involved in three different ways:

  • Promote the Climate Action Countdown to schools in your community now, and encourage teacher and parents to sign up to take part. We have logos you can use for the council website and newsletters here.
  • Organise your own event with schools in the community. For example, you could give council support to our active transport day by leading a walking school bus or getting on your bikes for the Bike to schools Bonanza. Or you could host a school choir in the town centre or town hall performing the Climate Action Countdown song, SOS for the Kids. Performing this song is one of the daily challenges during the month of action, and some schools have started learning the music already. There are lots of fun, media friendly challenges to choose from.
  • Visit a school that is taking part in the Climate Action Countdown for their climate assembly or one of their other media-friendly events such as the popup uniform swap shop or the plant-based picnic for pupils on meat-free Monday. We can help to connect you with schools, and will also be supporting with press coverage of these events.

Promoting and supporting the Climate Action Countdown will show communities that both the council, and its schools, are passionate about reducing carbon emissions.
