We run the Northcliffe Miniature Railway and one of our tracks will host a “High-Speed, Radio-Controlled Locomotive Competition”, known as “The Bradford Challenge”. Traditionally this has been for the society’s members but we are opening it up to neighbouring
societies, schools and colleges who are challenged to build locomotives to compete in the event. I have attached an invitation that gives further details and guidelines.
For schools and colleges, we believe that this event provides an opportunity to use the students’ imagination, innovation and creativity to design and build a locomotive to compete in the 2-lap time trials. It would support many of the curriculum activities
and aims such as:
- Designing & making high-quality prototypes
- Development of creative, technical and practical expertise
… and include aerodynamics, radio-control, safety, problem-solving and mathematical modelling & CAD, as well as practical skills. The three classes of locomotives should present opportunities for all ages and abilities.
If you are interested in joining the competition, or would like further details, perhaps also a visit to the miniature railway, please do not hesitate to contact me at the Society.
We look forward to hearing from you.
