Further to the news item we published on 12th January 2021 in relation to the extension of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) to 30th April, we have now produced a Flexible Furlough Hours calculator to assist schools to correctly calculate and claim for monthly flexible furlough hours.

The ‘Flexible Furlough Hours Worked Calculator’ should be used as an aid to correctly calculate the monthly number of normal hours worked, actual hours worked and furlough hours. The results should then be used to complete your furlough claim which you submit to the Payroll & Pension Liaison Service on a monthly basis. A copy of the calculator can also be located on our Payroll & Pension Liaison Resources page

It is important that this calculator is used, as HMRC may audit the Council’s claims at any time and we may ask you to evidence the number of furlough hours claimed for. If we receive furlough claim forms where weekly hours have been stated for flexibly furloughed employees from January onwards, these will be returned to the school to be completed correctly.

Please note that you can claim for holidays taken by a flexibly furloughed employee, ie during school holidays. However, you cannot place an employee on furlough just because they are taking leave.
