The DfE states that the purpose of the Multiplication Tables Check is to determine whether Year 4 pupils can fluently recall their multiplication tables. This half-day course will provide schools with guidance and activities to support them in preparing for this new assessment.

The DfE states that the purpose of the Multiplication Tables Check is to determine whether Year 4 pupils can fluently recall their multiplication tables. This half-day course will provide schools with guidance and activities to support them in preparing for this new assessment which is statutory from June 2020.

The course will be lead by Mark Hattersley - NCETM PD Lead, STEM Consultant, Maths No Problem trainer and Assistant Headteacher at St Mary's & St Peter's Catholic Primary School, Bradford, where he carried out the pilot with Y4 last year.

The course will explore ; 

Students who learn multiplication facts through traditional approaches generally do not retain the facts because the method attempts to move students from phase 1 directly to phase 3 of Baroody’s (2006) three developmental phases.
