Introduction
This is a unique opportunity for aspiring Head of School / Headteacher to attend a four-day professional learning programme including visiting four outstanding and two good schools in South London and Bradford, all of whom have achieved success in the face
of substantial challenges. In cohorts 1-3, 65 school leaders have accessed the programme in the last 12 months with many securing promotion in their current school or beyond and each cohort demonstrates an increased readiness for the Head of School or Headteacher
post in the future. This is a unique programme that does not duplicate other training, such as the National Professional Qualifications.
Eligibility
This programme is available to high-potential senior leaders in Yorkshire-based schools that aspiring to headship within the next 5 years. School can register 1 to 3 participants.
Programme
Day 1: Participants consider different leadership models with Paul Butler, SLE and Head of Exceed Teaching Schools, and their journey towards fulfilling the Headteacher Standards with Jenn Plews, CEO of Northern Star Academies Trust. Delegates also visit Horton
Grange Primary School (Platimum Investors in People Award, 2016 Telegraph and Argus School Improvement Award winner, Teaching School), Copthorne Primary School (Outstanding since 2007, Teaching School), Horton Park Primary School (2017 TES Awards Primary School
of the Year Finalist, 2017 Regional Pupil Premium Champion) and Canterbury Nursery School (Outstanding) with the CEO of Exceed Academies Trust, Duncan Jacques. The visits will focus on the schools’ journey of improvement and the role of the Executive Headteacher
and Head of School and Headteacher.
Day 2 and 3: Study visit to South London primary schools. Visits to Fairlawn (Outstanding) and Haseltine (Good) primary schools with their Executive Headteacher, Jeanette Brumby. Theses schools also have a fascinating leadership journey. Delegates are invited
to visit The Shard or Sky Garden after the visit before an evening meal at Zizzi’s restaurant in Greenwich. Two nights accommodation with breakfast is included at Travelodge Greenwich High Road.
Day 4: This day will focus on reflections from the school visits and provide additional insight into the journey of the schools in South London. The day will be led by Mark Wilson, CEO of Wellspring Academy Trust, the former Executive Headteacher at Fairlawn
and Haseltine. Delegates also consider due diligence in applying for headship.

Travel to London: 16:15 train from Leeds to Kings Cross then DLR to Greenwich: Hotel accommodation in Greenwich. Wednesday 3rd October
Day 2 and 3: Thursday 4th October - Friday 5th October 2018. Lewisham (returning on Friday - 13:30 train from Kings Cross to Leeds)
Day 4: Friday 12th October 2018 (Bradford)
