Support and Joint Practice Development for assessing age-related expectations in Primary Mathematics: Courses for year groups 1 - 6
‘Assessment without levels’ requires teachers to be able to make assessment judgements against age-related expectations for their own year groups. This can feel challenging and daunting as we continue to get to grips with the content
of the new curriculum and the new testing regimes.
The Primary Mathematics Moderation Project, will be led by Specialist Leaders of Education from Bradford Birth to 19 TSA and supported by Sharon Day will:
· develop teachers’ confidence in using observation and assessment techniques that do not require testing;
· equip teachers with the knowledge of what it means to be ‘age-related’ for their own year group;
· provide teachers with ideas on how to find and address gaps in children’s learningThere will be opportunities for professional dialogue with colleagues from a variety of schools to help with the process of finding
a shared understanding of the standards that children need to achieve as they progress through primary school.
Hi-lights from each session include:
· Session 1: The SLEs and Sharon Day will model how to work with children to observe and assess them followed by professional dialogue around what was noticed.
· Session 2: We will be designing tasks that allow us to gather evidence for many requirements at once and teachers will test these out with children.
· Session 3: Delegates attending will contribute to a portfolio of evidence which will then be presented to all schools who have taken part. Schools will then be able to use this as a basis for developing
their own exemplification file in school.
