Phase 1
Bradford Council was one of four pathfinders selected to pilot the Building Schools for the Future programme.
September 2008 saw the opening to pupils of the three new Secondary Schools that made up Phase 1 of the programme:
Buttershaw Business & Enterprise College, Tong High School and
Titus Salt School. More than 4,000 pupils and staff are now working and studying in modern, innovative and purpose built schools.
Phase 2 Secondary and Special Schools (SEN)
This phase of the Building Schools for the Future programme focused on providing new facilities to support the aim of raising educational attainment, increasing participation, addressing inclusion and developing social cohesion.
Combining mainstream and special schools on one campus brings the schools together within one community building to maximise the opportunity for inclusion. It enables the schools to share resources, such as dining and sports facilities, while maintaining
their own identity.
In May 2011, University Academy Keighley and Beechcliffe Secondary Special School opened to pupils. The schools share the same campus in Keighley, and benefit from new ICT facilities and sports facilities. Classrooms are flexible and sports
and dining facilities are shared between the schools.
June 2011 saw the opening of four brand new school buildings on two campuses in Bradford. Beckfoot Secondary School and Hazelbeck Secondary Special School are located on the same campus in Bingley, while Grange Technology College is located
on the same campus as Southfield Secondary Special School in Great Horton.
In July 2011, Hanson School opened the majority of its new facilities, including centres for Hearing and Visually Impaired students.
