People across Bradford are being encouraged to consider becoming an Independent Visitor and help make a lasting difference to the life of a local child or young person in care.

Independent Visitors are volunteers who spend time with children and young people who have little or no contact with their birth families. By offering just a few hours each month, volunteers can provide friendship, encouragement and the support of a trusted adult.

Many children in care benefit from having someone outside the care system who is there just for them. An Independent Visitor provides a positive, consistent relationship that can help a young person build confidence, develop new interests and create positive memories.

Activities might include going for a walk, visiting a local attraction, trying a new hobby, playing sport or simply spending time talking and listening.

People from all backgrounds are welcome to apply. Volunteers must be aged 18 or over and able to commit to spending a few hours each month with a child or young person for at least two years. Full training, ongoing support, DBS checks and agreed expenses are provided.

The Independent Visitor service is commissioned by Bradford Children and Families Trust and delivered by NYAS (National Youth Advocacy Service).
