These sessions will offer participants an opportunity to engage directly with a professional artist and contribute to the early stages of a new multidisciplinary performance project.
Akshay's practice combines contemporary dance, voice, movement, writing and conversation. The workshops will be exploratory and participatory, inviting students to reflect on ideas such as identity, memory, journey, belonging and the experiences that shape
how people understand home.
Activities may include discussion, creative writing, movement exercises, walking practices, vocal exploration and collaborative reflection. No particular experience in dance or singing is required, only a willingness to participate and explore ideas creatively.
Through these workshops, Akshay hopes to learn from a range of perspectives and experiences while testing creative approaches that may inform the development of his new work. The sessions will provide insight into how artists undertake research, generate
ideas and develop material for performance.
Students will have the opportunity to:
· Work with a professional choreographer and interdisciplinary artist.
· Gain insight into the creative research and development process.
· Explore new approaches to movement, voice and creative expression.
· Reflect on contemporary themes of migration, identity and belonging.
· Share ideas and experiences within a supportive and inclusive environment.
While the workshops will contribute to Akshay's artistic research, they are equally intended to offer students a meaningful creative development opportunity and a chance to experience contemporary artistic practice beyond the classroom.
I'm supporting Akshay to build connections with organisations and education providers across Bradford and would be delighted to discuss how a workshop could be tailored to suit your students and timetable. Sessions can be delivered free of charge, either
at your setting or at Bradford Arts Centre, subject to availability.
