As we move into the summer term, Count Your Carbon is encouraging schools across the district to complete their annual carbon footprint measurement. Measuring your school’s carbon impact is a vital step in understanding progress, embedding climate action
into everyday learning, and celebrating the positive changes being led by staff and pupils.
There’s still time to complete your 2025–26 carbon footprint report.
Schools are encouraged to complete a Count Your Carbon calculation once per academic year. If you haven’t yet completed yours, you can do so up until Monday 17 August, before the tool temporarily closes for updates. A clear step-by-step guide and answers sheet
are available to support schools in gathering the required data and completing the calculation confidently.
How your school can get involved
Count Your Carbon is designed to be accessible for teachers and school leaders, with no prior sustainability expertise needed. Additional support is available, including:
-
Let’s Go Zero, which supports schools to cut carbon and recommends completing a carbon footprint as a first step.
-
Climate Ambassadors, who connect schools with trained volunteers offering practical help.
-
Free regional events focused on climate action and carbon literacy in education.
Completing your carbon footprint is a positive, practical step—and as Bradford’s schools are showing, it can also be a powerful way to engage pupils and showcase success.
Count Your Carbon is the nation’s first free, full-scope carbon footprint calculator, built for – and in collaboration with – nurseries, schools and colleges. It supports educational settings to calculate, understand, reduce and track carbon emissions.
