Shoppers at Bradford Council’s Darley Street Market will be able to buy seed potatoes and learn how to grow them as well as take part in a superhero potato workshop and as Potato Day arrives at the city centre market.
Potato Day, which has been organised by John Dallas and Peter Taylor from the West Yorkshire Organic Group, will take place at Darley Street Market on Saturday 28 February 2026.
Running from 10am to 4pm on one of the pop-up stalls on the Fresh Food Floor, the team from West Yorkshire Organic Group will be selling hundreds of locally-grown ‘seed potatoes’ to encourage people to grow their own. A seed potato is a potato that can be
planted to produce a new plant and grow new potatoes. The seed potatoes will be 20p each (cash-only), and experts from the West Yorkshire Organic Group will be on hand to offer gardeners help and advice on how to grow them.
The varieties that will be available to buy on Potato Day are as follows:
FIRST EARLIES - Anya, Bambino, Casablanca, Foremost, Jazzy, Lady Chrystl, Pentland Dell
SECOND EARLIES - Kestrel, Nicola, Twinner
MAIN CROPS - Alouette, Buffalo, Cara, Heidi Red, Kingsman, Orla, Nemo, Sarpo Kifli, Setanta, Supernova

If Potato Day has got your stomach rumbling why not get one of Adam’s legendry jacket potatoes from ground floor café Darley Spuds or treat yourself to loaded fries from Fries-days which is located in Darley Street Kitchen along with a wide range of food
from around the globe on the top floor of the market.
John Dallas, organiser of Potato Day and member of West Yorkshire Organic Group, said: “By bringing our Potato Day event into Bradford, we hope that we'll give people a few more ideas of how to grow their own food wherever they live - flat, terrace, semi-detached,
garden or allotment.”
Potatoes along with loads of other fresh fruit and vegetables and more are also on offer from the traders on the Fresh Food Floor.
Julia Pearson from the Bradford Apple Day Group and Bowling Park Community Orchard also be in the market selling produce from the orchard including apples, apple juice chutney and jam and giving free advice to 'budding' allotmenteers and fruit tree and fruit
bush growers.
