There are a number of forthcoming changes to non-commodity charges for Electricity which will increase non-commodity costs.
Clean Power 2030 is driving the current prices
It is the government’s commitment to generate 95% of electricity from ‘clean sources’ by 2030. To support this change the government are increasing charges on a number of non-commodity electricity charges. This is having an impact on electricity bills from
November 2025 onwards and is forecast to continue increasing until 2030. What this means is that the non-commodity charges are increasing now and will continue to increase over the next 5 years and will make up the greatest proportion of future electricity
bills. Whilst we are currently seeing a decrease in the commodity charge for electricity, this will be balanced out with increases in non-commodity charges.
We thought it prudent to inform schools on the YPO contract that this is happening now and will continue to show increases over the next 5 years should the current direction of travel continue.
NPower and YPO have provided us with a presentation which sets out each of the individual non-commodity charges and how each will change over the next 5 years. It also provides a few basic tips on how to mitigate the increases through reducing electricity
usage.
Please contact John Sharp at john.sharp@bradford.gov.uk for a copy of the presentation provided by NPower/YPO with details of each of the individual non-commodity charges and how they are forecast to change over the next 5 years.
