School Clothing Allowance

Within its consultation on the Council's budget for 2014/15 and 2015/16, the Executive proposed that the Council ceases to provide financial assistance to families with meeting the cost of school uniforms. A final decision to cease this assistance, from 1 April 2014, was made by Council on 20 February 2014.


The Schools Forum has considered this matter, and is supportive of the transfer of responsibility, for providing financial assistance, to schools and academies. ALL maintained schools and academies are now asked to review their policies to incorporate financial assistance for uniform costs. A guidance note has been written to support this. The guidance note can be found here


The Council’s Revenues, Benefits and Payroll Department is no longer able to give advice to schools and academies on eligibility. Revs and Bens provide FSM eligibility data for maintained schools (and academies that purchases services – please note that FSM data cannot be provided to academies that have opted out of the Council’s FSM administration services). For further information contact the Education Benefits team 01274 434477
