Trees for Cities is a charity working with schools to create vibrant food growing spaces. We create bespoke outdoor classrooms that sit at the heart of a school’s community, bringing the curriculum to life as well as having countless benefits in improving physical and mental health and wellbeing.

“The consequent impact on children’s learning has been significant as the playground has become our most high profile, highly treasured teaching resource.”  Richard Hunter, Headteacher at Rotherfield Primary School.”

Your school could be the first in the district

Trees for Cities is pleased to announce its Edible Playground programme is coming to Bradford. We now have a Project Development Officer based in the area and we are looking for a small number of schools to work with us in creating Edible Playgrounds as flagship outdoor spaces here in the city. We will work with you from the initial survey, design and build through to teacher training.

Schools are asked to contribute £5,000 (+ VAT) of the total £30,000 cost, assuming a standard sized project. Trees for Cities will fund the remaining cost through their corporate partners.

The project will need the agreement of the headteacher and schools typically fund their contribution through Pupil Premium, Sports Premium, infrastructure budgets or special grants. Trees for Cities can advise on potential funding streams. There will need to be a suitable space for development - about half the size of a tennis court.
