The new National Curriculum has higher expectations of pupils (and teachers) and requires learning for mastery. This workshop, led by UK experts in the Singapore approach to teaching and learning mathematics, will explore aspects of this approach that could
help you to meet these increased standards while also creating confident and enthused learners of mathematics. Through this free afternoon workshop we will:
- Consider how fluency and mastery underpins deep conceptual understanding
- Identify how a spiral approach can develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving, and conceptual understanding
- Begin to explore the potential of the 'Singapore Bar' model drawing method as a valuable problem-solving tool
- Develop an understanding of variation theory and how this is embedded in effective textbook content to support pupil learning.
