Teaching basic number skills to children who have Down syndrome

Teaching basic numeracy to children with Down syndrome and other learning difficulties using Numicon to help develop a basic understanding. A two part course running 15th and 22nd October.

Session 1:  Wednesday 15th October 2014, 9.30am to 12.30pm

Session 2:  Wednesday 22nd October 2014, 9.30am to 12.30pm

Session 1 will cover how we learn to count and basic number skills up to 10. It will introduce the Numicon Foundation Kit and include practical activities and suggestions to promote numeracy. It is relevant for staff and parents working with children aged from birth upwards who are still working with numbers up to 10.

Session 2 will introduce Numicon Kit 1 and look at ways to introduce and teach the number system beyond 10, basic addition, subtraction, time and money.

Each session will also include a brief look at some relevant software. If you are new to Numicon it is NOT recommended to attend session 2 only.
