Phonic Monitoring Screening Visits 2014
A team of Achievement Officers and Consultants will be visiting a sample of schools/academies to monitor the phonic screening checks. These will be in the weeks commencing 9 June, 16 June and 23 June 2014.
Officers will complete these visits in line with the STA guidance – “Monitoring visits guidance for local authorities – Phonics screening check”
The purpose of the visits is to ensure that the security and confidentiality of the check materials are maintained, and that the check is administered correctly and consistently in accordance with the published guidance. They also give a formal opportunity
to demonstrate how the check is administered in schools.
On arrival the Officer will request to
- Speak to the Headteacher.
- See the delivery note and storage of materials.
- View the room where check/s are taking place and ask who is administering the check.
If checks are taking place during the visit they will observe the administration of the screening with the children and adults.
Before the officer leaves the school a note of visit will be completed and any necessary changes.
A copy will be provided for the Headteacher.
