Bradford Libraries Poppies Competition

Win £10 book vouchers and the chance to have your poppy design used in Bradford Libraries WW1 Commemoration Reading Rug. Children from KS1, KS2 and KS3 are asked to paint or draw a picture of poppies, either a single poppy or lots and it doesn't have to be red.

As part of our WW1 commemoration events for children we are working in partnership with West Riding Ruggers to design and create a reading rug for Bradford Libraries. The rug would be made using recycled materials and traditional “proddy” rug making techniques typical of the time at the start of WW1, with an opportunity for children to have a “hands on” session. The finished rug will be used within the libraries of Bradford. The project is linked to a series of local history sessions entitled “Life for Children on the WW1 Home Front” that we will be offering to schools during the summer term.

We are asking children from KS1, KS2 and KS3 to draw or paint a picture of poppies for a chance to have their picture used in the rug design. The children are asked to use their imagination and plenty of colours. It can be a single poppy or lots and it doesn’t have to be red.

There are £10 book vouchers for all the designs chosen. All the prize winners and runners up will have their entries featured on the Bradford Libraries website. Winners will also be invited along to see the rug making in progress as well as have a “hands on” session.

You will find full competition details and entry form attached. The closing date is Friday 2nd May 2014. If you require further information please don’t hesitate to contact me on 01274 433915 or christinea.donnelly@bradford.gov.uk.
