UNIVERSAL INFANT FREE SCHOOL MEALS (UISFM) FUNDING
UIFSM funding has been announced to improve facilities to enable schools to deliver a meal to all children in KS1 from September 2014.
For VA schools funding will be via the LCVAP process. The Academies funding process has yet to be announced. The funding will be available through the LA for VC, Foundation and Community schools through a bidding process which we intend to publish in the
first week of March on Bradford Schools Online. The key evaluation criteria for this process will be based on attainment, current capacity & anticipated demand, deprivation and value for money.
Your submissions will need to be submitted no later than Friday 21st March.
Submissions will then be evaluated and we intend to notify you of the decisions on Tuesday 1st April.
Please can we ask you to consider any shortfalls currently within your school kitchen and dining facilities and the impact of all KS1 children needing to be provided with a meal from the start of the Autumn term.
You will need to consult with your catering provider who will know the limitations they are currently working within and what impact the government’s announcement will have on provision.
We hope that you will identify ways to bid for this funding to help your school secure the benefits of universal infant free school meals for your pupils. We would like to encourage you to consider how this funding could be used to improve school kitchen
and dining facilities, and to support creative approaches to meeting the increase in demand for school food.
Areas to consider will include the number of pupils you expect to access school meals from September 2014; the type of meals you provide; queuing systems used, dining area usage and kitchen capacity. The mix of religions in schools and any specific dietary
requirements would also need to be taken into account. Further information can be found at:

The UIFSM fund is only available to address KS1 provision (reception, year 1 and year2 pupils). For VC, Foundation and Community schools with a need to provide KS1 provision in accordance with the government pledge need to submit a bid through Bradford
Schools Online to access UIFSM funds in support of this compliance requirement. For VA schools funding will be via the LCVAP process and should be presented to the relevant diocese. It should be noted that there are not sufficient funds to upgrade all kitchen
and dining facilities across the Schools estate.
