Free poppy seeds for schools to help us remember

The Council’s Parks and Woodlands department is offering you a chance to brighten up your school garden or planters with poppies – as part of the nation’s remembrance of the centenary of the First World War.

They have poppy seeds available for schools which, when planted in bare cultivated soil in March or April, will provide a glorious display in the summer. They are tiny, so in just 1 gr there are 9,000 seeds so would be ideal to seed in small planters or open earth.

School staff will be asked to pick up the seeds from the department’s operational bases across the district.
