West Yorkshire Police will shortly be looking to offer 6 new apprenticeships within its Transport department. The 6 apprenticeships will cover different areas of the department and will be available as follows.

3 apprenticeships in the Vehicle Service and Repair Workshop

This is a 4-year apprenticeship with applicants accepted from the age of 16+. The successful applicants will be enrolled on a 3 years course at a local collage studying light vehicle maintenance and repair, this will be attended on day release and the remaining 4 days of the week will be spent working alongside a mentor at the Forces workshop based in Wakefield. The 4th and final year will be spent building on their skills, knowledge and ability to work independently to ensure they are ready to apply for a full-time role with West Yorkshire Police.

2 apprenticeships in the Vehicle Commissioning Unit

This is a 4-year apprenticeship with applicants accepted from the age of 16+. The successful applicants will be enrolled on a 3 years course at a local collage studying light vehicle maintenance and repair, this will be attended on day release and the remaining 4 days of the week will be spent working alongside a mentor at the Forces workshop based in Wakefield. The 4th and final year will be spent building on their skills, knowledge and ability to work independently to ensure they are ready to apply for a full-time role with West Yorkshire Police.

1 apprenticeship in the administration team

This is a 2-year apprenticeship with applicants accepted from the age of 16+. The first 18 months of the apprenticeship individuals will be enrolled on an admin course at a local college. The remaining 6 months of the apprenticeship will require the individual to study and complete the AFP (Association of Fleet Professionals) introductory course. Once both he admin course and AFP course have been completed and passed the individual will eb in a position apply for a full-time role with West Yorkshire Police.

Representatives from the West Yorkshire Police’s Transport Department will be attending the Apprenticeships Unlocked event on 28th June and will be happy to answer any questions people may have, we will also be happy to take CV’s and cover letters from individual interested in any of the above positions at this event.

If we have a large amount of interest in these apprenticeships, then we will be looking to hold an open day for individuals that have express an interest to come and look around our facilities and speak with staff and current apprentices. For the individuals still interested after the open day interviews will be arranged so that positions can be appointed.
