Below are some suggested messages you may find helpful to let parents/carers know that they may be eligible to claim a self-isolation support payment if their child is required to self-isolate.

There is a 42-day window for applying so claims may still be made in respect of a pupil who has been told to isolate since the March 8 reopening.

Therefore, there are two messages. The first could be sent to parents/carers whose child has been told to self-isolate since march 8. The second message could be included in any future communications to parent/carers advising them that the child needs to self-isolate.

Text to send to parents if a bubble has been told to isolate since 8 March

It has been brought to our attention that you may be able to apply for a self-isolation payment because your child was in a bubble that had to isolate. You can apply even though it was in the past so long as your application is within 42 days of the isolation period and you meet specific criteria. Applications can be made by a parent or guardian where the child has been asked to self-isolate on or after 8 March 2021.

You might be able to get the payment if you could not work from home and had to take time off work to look after your child.

The child must:

  • be 15 or under, or 25 or under if they have an Education, Health and Care plan (EHC)
  • live with you
  • normally be at school or in childcare
  • have been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or their school or childcare provider

Text to send in future when informing a parent/carer that a bubble has to close and a child needs to self-isolate

As you are a parent/guardian of a child or young person who has been told to self-isolate you may be able to get a £500 self-isolation support payment.

You might be able to get the payment if you cannot work from home and need to take time off work to look after them.

The child must:

  • be 15 or under, or 25 or under if they have an Education, Health and Care plan (EHC)
  • live with you
  • normally be at school or in childcare
  • have been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or their school or childcare provider

You’ll need to meet the other eligibility criteria and you’ll need evidence that your child has been told to self-isolate.

Any application must be received within 42 days of the start of your self-isolation period.
