Fishing is a great sport that can have a real positive impact on mental health and general well being given the trail of destruction that covid-19 has left behind including : confidence building, skills development, co-ordination, conduct, behaviour, patience, concentration, resilience and focus.

The Bradford Community Play & Development Service are delighted to be able to offer a “Free Taster Fishing Session" for Schools” starting after the 2021 Easter holiday period. Please see below for more details about this unique opportunity :

Tuesday 11th from 13:00 - 15:00

Thursday 13th from 13:00 - 15:00

 

September

Tuesday 7th from either 10:00 - 12:00 or 13:00 - 15:00

Thursday 9th from either 10:00 - 12:00 or 13:00 - 15:00

Tuesday 14th  from either 10:00 - 12:00 or 13:00 - 15:00

Thursday 16th  from either 10:00 - 12:00 or 13:00 - 15:00

 

Transportation : Your School will need to arrange the transportation of children, to and from the venue.

Venue : Farview Fishing Lakes, Lee Lane, Wilsden, Bradford BD16 1UF

Overview : Up to a maximum of 8 children fishing at any one time over a 2 hour period, supervised by two tutors.

All equipment will be provided by our Service and set up by tutors, ready for the arrival of the children on site.

On arrival, children will be briefed about the facility and informed about behaviour and expectations.

Each child will be allocated a shared peg (a space where they will remain throughout the session)

Each child will be provided with their own seat, bait and fishing tackle (including umbrella if needed)

Tutors will provide basic information about fishing and the various techniques used.

Children will be encouraged to fish independently with tutors available only to assist where and when necessary.

Children will find out about the species of fish they catch and will also have a photo opportunity if they wish to do so (School staff to arrange this) before the fish are returned safely back to the water.

What we need from your School ?

To enable our Service to put together a timetable for Schools that are interested, please can you submit the following information no later than Friday 19th March 2021 to lee.clapham@bradford.gov.uk :

Please note that preferred dates and times will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and limited to a maximum of one free session per School initially. This may increase to two free sessions, depending on the number of Schools that apply and want to get involved. Confirmation of your allocated date/s will be sent via email to your “Person responsible” and must be confirmed upon receipt.

PLEASE NOTE THAT SESSIONS WILL TAKE PLACE IN A COVID SAFE ENVIRONMENT AND IN LINE WITH CURRENT GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES.
