Get back into reading with the Silly Squad Summer Reading Challenge 2020

To be completed by: Wed 30 Sep 2020

Time: -Wed 30 Sep 2020 | Venue:

Bradford Libraries would like to support teachers and children as they return to school with a helping hand to encourage a return to reading. The Summer Reading Challenge has been very different this year however at Bradford we have a challenge kit bag for children 4 to 14 years and certificate.

At Bradford Libraries we are delighted that we have been able to offer Silly Squad Summer Reading Challenge packs for those children who order and collect books from our re-opened libraries. These packs consist of a Silly Squad book bag, folder to record books read and 3 sets of stickers.

And, because we want to reward and support all children who have returned to the library after such a long time at home, each child will receive a Silly Squad Summer Reading Challenge 2020 certificate, no matter how many books they manage to read this summer! Certificates will be sent via school in October, provided children have given their school name on registering.

Our Summer Reading Challenge packs are a unique offer from Bradford Libraries as we feel it is important to encourage as many children as we can to continue their reading journey and of course, we can ALL still enjoy books and have lots of fun reading together.

We understand, that the Order and Collect service may be difficult for some children to access and as yet we have not returned to browsing within libraries, however, we would very much like to work with individual schools to help children participate. If you would like to encourage some of your children to retun to reading and to access the summer reading challenge please get in touch.  It will continue until 30th September and is available for 4 to 14 years old.

In addition:

The Silly Squad Summer Reading Challenge 2020 officially launched its national digital platform on Friday 5th June and children canstill  join online . Register at www.sillysquad.org.uk

There are lots of brilliant book suggestions and tips on how to keep reading even while schools and libraries are closed, along with silly activities, quizzes, videos, games and more to keep children entertained at home.

Attached are information documents for parents which may be good to share and also an activity booklet, again aimed at parents and children. Promoting these may be all you can do but if you feel you can do more to enourage a return to reading, then please get in touch and let's see how we can work with groups of children from your school who may benefit from using the kit bag and receiving a certificate.
