This course from Bradford Research School and the Research Schools Network uses the best available evidence on Metacognition and Self-Regulated Learning to ensure that schools can implement strategies to promote these effectively.


Evidence suggests the use of ‘metacognitive strategies’ – which get pupils to think about their own learning - can be worth the equivalent of an additional +7 months’ progress when used well.

This three day course reviews the best available research to offer teachers and senior leaders practical advice on how to develop their pupils’ metacognitive skills and knowledge. We will explore the seven recommendations from the EEF’s guidance report and ‘myth bust’ common misconceptions teachers have about metacognition. You will be given the tools and support to allow you implement effective approaches to metacognition and self-regulated learning.This course will suit anyone with an interest in metacognition and a desire to ensure that it is implemented effectively in schools. The principles apply across phases and across subjects, but you will also be given time to look at how things will work in your own unique context. 

Delivered by Mark Miller, Head of Bradford Research School and Helen Wrightson, Assistant Vice Principal, Dixons Marchbank.

All three days will be at Dixons City Academy.

The course costs £295. Schools can add an additional delegate for £95.
