Please be aware that letters will be sent out this week inviting schools to participate in the Bradford Children and Young Peoples Lifestyle Survey.
To deliver the Districts priorities effectively, it is essential to listen to the needs of young people and understand the challenges they face. Working with Bradford Council, The Schools Health Education Unit (SHEU) delivered the Healthy Lifestyle Survey
in Bradford in 2010 and 2013 and we have not had a survey since then. SHEU is the leading provider of health-related surveys for use in schools in the UK. Over a million pupils have completed questionnaires since the service began in 1977, and SHEU has had
contact with thousands of schools across the UK.
The major part of SHEUs work is school community lifestyle surveys where young people give up their time to complete the questionnaires which provide information and intelligence about issues affecting young children which will be useful to schools and key
partners as well as people as well.
The survey will be district wide and offered to all pupils in years 5, 7 and 10 in mainstream, special schools and PRUs in the Spring Term 2020. The survey has been designed to build on previous years questionnaires to enable the identification of any long
term trends. To identify new areas of potential issues across the district, feedback has been received from Children’s Services, Born in Bradford, School Nursing, Youth Services and Public Health and new questions have been added.
The survey will be available both in paper form and online and will be carried out via the School Nursing Service with support from SHEU. Results for the survey will be distributed to all schools individually and confidentially, with a summary for the district
being made available via the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA), Children’s Trust and the Health and Wellbeing Board.
This survey will be used to help understand what the biggest issues are for Health and Well-being within the district and will enable schools and organisations to make the best use of their resources and services for children and young people.
