Are you looking for a way to motivate your pupils with a meaningful and engaging activity to improve their mathematical skills? The Maths in Motion challenge stimulates genuine excitement amongst pupils of all abilties and promotes teamwork and confidence amongst those who take part.

Cars Maths in Motion is online software which simulates the setting up of Formula 1 style racing car. Your students, working in small teams of 4, must complete a series of mathematical challenges in an effort to produce the perfect car. This 'virtual' car is then entered into competitive races against teams from other local schools followed by entry into the summer national competition.

The Maths in Motion project has a proven track record of enhancing attainment and engagement in Mathematics in Year 6 (and able Year 5 pupils) covering areas including:-

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication & divsion
  • Decimals, rounding & context
  • Ratios,chance, risk & strategy
  • Speed, distance& time
  • Angles, measurement & scale
  • Data handling
  • Interpreting graphs & statistics
  • Maths modelling...what happens if?

The cost for schools to join the Bradford Online League for the 2019-20 season is just £150 which includes the necessary software and the following sessions:

22.10.19 : Launch & initial training
14.01.20 : Winter face to face race meeting
07.07.20 : Celebration / summer event

4 online races against local schools
Access to phone and email support from a consultant
Excellent preparation for entering the national competition

Pupils and teachers will need to attend the above 3 sessions at the Innovation Centre Bradford from 12.30-3.00.  If you have never taken part this is a great opportunity to get engaged by taking advantage of the preferntial rate offered to Bradford schools through the Curriculum Innovation service.
