This Network meeting is free and open to all Secondary colleagues who lead SMSC in their schools or have a special interest in the proposed agenda below.

Improving 'school experience' for our EE/ Roma pupils and new migrant children

As we all know - we are increasingly hearing some very sobering, sad concerns from new arrivals including Eastern European students. This includes pupils feeling isolated, not sharing their experiences, experiencing racism, bullying and a lack of positive relationships between themselves and others. Recently we attended a meeting where Bradford Council Youth Services have shared what young people are telling them about their experiences. Collectively the council and The Linking Network want to work together with schools. We did feel it would be useful to explore ways forward for all pupils across the district. We have invited Youth Services staff to attend- so we can hear directly from them and others to discuss, share best practice in this area and also any thoughts or concerns. We know many of you will already have started initiatives and programmes that support this; so please do let us know if there is anything you think we should be highlighting.

Talkeoke

We've invited friends from The Talking Society, to bring along their Talkeoke with them. Talkeoke is a pop up talk show where anyone can sit down and air their views around the table. Talkeoke is a fun and exciting way to have a debate, conversation or discussion about the things that matter.  (If you would like to book one of the Talkeoke sessions for your students during the day (Wednesday 23rd October) there are still spaces available for the morning and afternoon slots- contact liz.firth@thelinkingnetwork.org.uk)

RSE in Secondary Schools

We thought it would be good to share inital information connected to Relationship and Sex Education and ways forward for 2020. What are the challenges for our schools? How can they be overcome? What does best practice look like? We would welcome any input from attendees. We will then hold a further meeeting on this theme later in the year- once we know more.

New Ofsted Framework- where to find key guidance around SMSC.

A quick recap on the new framework and a reminder around key resources/ guidance that may help you. We are running our Leading SMSC course 20th November, 2019 to be held at the Innovation Centre. £30 to Bradford schools.

Tour of City Hall at the end of the session

Could your school take advantage of this beautiful building? The council would like more young people to access City Hall.

Finally, as always we would like to hear from you. Has there been anything that you have done or planning to do which is really enhancing SMSC provision in your school?

If you are interested in attending, please contact Lyn Jones (lyn.jones@thelinkingnetwork.org.uk) or ring 01274 439248.
