Primary Goal offer award-winning niche apprenticeships focussing on technology and education. They have two major programmes available to schools that have been developed specifically for the education sector– these apprenticeships help to assist with developing the digital skills of staff and pupils, as well as assisting with technical troubleshooting, curriculum technology and digital transformation. The key benefit of working with Primary Goal is their unique partnership model that engages specialist tech partners to support the school and apprentices for best impact. The two programmes on offer are:

  1. IT Support Focus - Level 3 Infrastructure Technician – Teacher’s Technology Apprenticeship. This programme generally involves the recruitment of a new apprentice who will undertake a predominantly technical support role and will then have a role to support curriculum technology as an added value element. The apprentice will manage the IT assets, provide technical troubleshooting, liaise with IT service providers, support IT infrastructure projects, update social media and website content and support staff to use technology in teaching and learning. They can also deliver extra-curricular technology clubs. Training is focussed on technical IT skills with added value training for curriculum technology. Schools need to budget for the salary of the apprentice, which can be as little as £6350 for the first 12 months.
  2. Curriculum Technology Focus - Level 3 Digital Applications Technician – Digital Champion Apprenticeship. This apprenticeship is a perfect professional development opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who has a passion for technology. They can be given a specific responsibility to drive forward with the EdTech and Digital Transformation agenda in school. They will coordinate IT projects, audit and action plan all technology related provisions, manage social media and website content, run technology enrichment activities, provide low level IT troubleshooting, support the development of digital skills of the pupils and staff and support the delivery of the computing curriculum. They will also be given added value Future Teacher resources to boost their classroom practice.

NB. THIS IS A NEW APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME AND DEMAND IS HIGH. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST, please contact Nikki Clamp Nikki.clamp@primarygoal.ac.uk

FUNDING THE APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING: Generally for schools, the funding of the apprenticeship training is covered by the apprenticeship levy. For non-levy schools or where the levy doesn’t cover the training in full, the government commit to pay 95% of any surplus training costs. Primary Goal also have some excellent links with large levy paying organisations who have agreed to share some of their levy funds with schools. This can help non-maintained schools who don’t pay into the apprenticeship levy and/ or schools who don’t have sufficient levy funds. This means they don’t have to pay the 5% contribution. Please ask for more information on the criteria and funding rules regarding the levy, co-investment and levy share.
