Our research shows that local nursery and primary school teachers and leaders with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from BME backgrounds are under-represented in securing Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) designation. This programme is designed to help
address this by supporting teachers and leaders of BME backgrounds in Lancashire and West Yorkshire schools through three half-day training and coaching sessions led by Local Leaders of Education (LLE) and Specialist Leaders of Education (SLE). This programme
is full-funded by the DfE via the Lancashire and West Yorkshire Leadership Equality and Diversity Fund.
Aim:
• To support BME teachers and leaders to develop the confidence to apply and be successful in securing Specialist Leader of Education designation
Objectives:
• To develop a broad awareness of system leadership
• To develop the knowledge, understanding and skills associated with effective system leadership
• To develop an awareness of the career continuum so that participants prepare for a system leadership role
• To develop the confidence of effective teachers and leaders from BME backgrounds to apply for SLE designation
Intended outcomes:
• 75% of participants become SLEs within 12 months
• 100% of participants know what system leadership is and how they can develop as leaders in order to meet the criteria to become designated SLEs
• 100% of participants increase their confidence as current or aspiring leaders
